A teenager who a Court was told threatened his mother, brother and the Gardai with a piece of mirror wrapped in a sock has been refused bail . The 17 year old boy with an address in Tallaght is charged with damaging a mirror worth €50 and producing a pointed piece of broken mirror during the course of a dispute at his home address on January 30, 2010. Objecting to bail Detective Garda John O’Connell said that he believed if granted bail the youth would commit similar offences.
He said it will be alleged that on January 30 the accused got a ladder and climbed up into his back bedroom and started damaging it. He said that the teenager then got a piece of mirror, wrapped once end in cloth and went downstairs where he threatened his mother and his brother. He also threatened that if the Gardai came to the house he would “stick the glass into them”. The detective alleged that the “stand off” with the youth lasted 90 minutes. The teenagers counsel, Kitty Perle B.L, asked Judge McDonnell to grant bail. Judge McDonnell refused bail and remanded the teenager in custody for one week.
